According to local legend, a princess from Malabar named Premaladevi renounced her kingdom and became a disciple of Matsyendranath. Having converted Premaladevi to the Nath sect, Matsyendranath renamed her Mangaladevi. After her death, the Mangaladevi temple was consecrated in her honour by the local people. Thus the city got its name from the temple. The Mangaluru Dasara (Tulu: Marnemi), is a festival in the Indian city of Mangalurue organized by Kudroli Shri Gokarnanatheshwara Temple.[1] It is also referred to as the Navarathri Festival, Vijayadashami. The tiger dance, lion dance, and bear dance are the main attractions. The city is decorated with lights for the 10 days of the occasion. K.S.
